Questions About Your Child's Dental Health?

Dr. Kit Bennion is here to help.

Your child deserves great dental care, and figuring out insurance should never stand in the way. If your family has DentaQuest Medicaid coverage and you have been struggling to find a pediatric dentist who can see your child, you are not alone. Many Texas families in the Seguin area run into this exact challenge, and the good news is there is a clear path forward that keeps your child’s dental benefits fully intact.

At Guadalupe Kids Dental, we want every family to have access to the compassionate, high-quality pediatric care Dr. Kit Bennion and our team provide. We accept TMHP (Medicaid), and our insurance and financing options are designed to make quality dental care accessible to families across our community. While we are not currently in network with DentaQuest, we do accept both MCNA Dental and UnitedHealthcare Dental, the other two managed care dental plans available under Texas Medicaid. Moving your child to one of these plans is a simple process that most families can complete with a single phone call.

Understanding the Medicaid Dental Plans in Texas

Texas Medicaid dental coverage is managed through three different dental plans: DentaQuest, MCNA Dental, and UnitedHealthcare Dental. All three plans cover the same core set of pediatric dental services, but each maintains its own provider network. Since DentaQuest is not currently accepting new providers, families enrolled in that plan may find it difficult to locate a pediatric dentist who can take their child as a new patient.

MCNA Dental and UnitedHealthcare Are Both Accepted Here

Both MCNA Dental and UnitedHealthcare Dental have extensive statewide networks and cover a wide range of services for children, including exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, X-rays, and other medically necessary care. Switching from DentaQuest to either of these plans does not affect your child’s Medicaid eligibility or their overall benefits. Your family stays on the same program, with the same financial protections, and gains access to a provider who can actually get your child in the door. Once the switch is active, your child can come in for a pediatric dental exam and cleaning just like any other patient at our office.Infographic_How to Switch From DentaQuest Insurance to UnitedHealthcare Medicaid

How to Make the Switch

Switching your child’s dental plan within Texas Medicaid is a manageable process, and there are several ways to do so. According to Texas Health and Human Services, Medicaid members can request a plan change at any time, while CHIP members have a 90-day window from enrollment to make changes. Keep in mind that changes typically take between 15 and 45 days to process, so starting as soon as possible helps avoid any gap in coverage before your child’s first appointment. Here are the three ways to request the switch:
