When a child’s tooth needs more than a filling, parents often search for a solution that protects their little one’s smile without drawing attention to the work. White crowns for kids have become one of the most popular choices in pediatric dentistry because they restore a damaged tooth to full function while preserving its natural, bright appearance, which parents and children both love. Whether your child has experienced decay, a fracture, or needs a full-coverage restoration, a tooth-colored crown can give their smile a seamless, confident look.
At Guadalupe Kids Dental in Seguin, TX, we understand that every treatment decision feels big as a parent. Our restorative dentistry services are built around minimally invasive care and your child’s comfort from start to finish. Led by Dr. Kristopher “Kit” Bennion, a board-certified pediatric dentist who completed his residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, our team brings specialized expertise and a genuinely warm, family-centered approach to every visit.

What Are Pediatric White Crowns?
White crowns for kids, often called zirconia crowns, are full-coverage tooth restorations made from a strong, tooth-colored ceramic material. Unlike traditional stainless steel crowns, zirconia crowns are designed to blend naturally with your child’s smile while offering excellent durability. They are prefabricated and custom-fitted to cover and protect the entire visible portion of a tooth.
These crowns are most often recommended when a primary (baby) tooth has significant decay that a filling cannot fully address, or when a tooth has been weakened by fracture or trauma. Because baby teeth play a critical role in chewing, speech development, and holding space for permanent teeth, preserving them with a strong restoration is often the best path forward for your child’s long-term oral health.

Are White Crowns Right for Your Child?
White crowns are a great option in many situations. Your child’s dentist will evaluate the tooth’s condition and recommend the best approach. Common reasons a pediatric white crown may be recommended include:
- Extensive decay: When a cavity is too large or deep to be addressed with a standard tooth-colored filling
- Fractured or broken teeth: When a tooth has been structurally compromised and needs full coverage to stay in place
- Teeth following pulp treatment: When a primary tooth has needed a pulp procedure and requires a protective cap to maintain its strength
- Developmental concerns: When enamel is weak or underdeveloped, full coverage offers the best long-term protection
A 2022 systematic review published in the National Institutes of Health’s PubMed Central found that zirconia crowns for primary teeth demonstrate strong clinical performance across outcomes, including gingival health, parental satisfaction, and crown retention, making them a well-supported option in pediatric dental care.
What Does the White Crown Procedure Look Like?
Most parents want to know exactly what to expect before their child’s appointment, and we love walking families through the process so there are no surprises. The procedure typically takes place in a single visit and begins with gently preparing the tooth to ensure the crown fits snugly and comfortably.
Will My Child Be Comfortable?
Your child’s comfort is our top priority throughout every step. For children who feel nervous or need extra support during longer procedures, we offer pediatric sedation options to help them stay relaxed and at ease. With nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral sedation, children typically remain awake and simply feel calm and comfortable during the visit. Once the tooth is prepared, the white crown is fitted and secured, and your child leaves with a natural-looking smile.
What About Kids With Special Needs?
We are proud to offer a fully inclusive, sensory-sensitive environment for all children, including those with developmental differences, sensory processing challenges, or medical complexities. Our special needs dentistry services are tailored to meet each child where they are, and Dr. Bennion’s personal and professional experience caring for children with special needs makes our team uniquely equipped to create a positive experience for every patient.
How Do White Crowns Compare to Other Options?
White zirconia crowns offer several advantages that make them a preferred choice for many families. Unlike stainless steel crowns, zirconia blends with natural teeth, so no metallic color is visible when your child smiles or laughs. The material is also biocompatible and resistant to plaque buildup, which supports healthy gums around the restoration.

Dr. Kristopher “Kit” Bennion
Board Certified Pediatric Dentist
I’m excited to open Guadalupe Kids Dental and to be part of the community of Seguin and the surrounding area. My family and I have been in Texas since 2008, when I completed my Pediatric Dental Residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania. As part of my pediatric dental training I received extensive training in sedation dentistry and the treatment and management of medically complex pediatric patients.
My wife and I have been blessed with seven wonderful children, including my son who was born with Down Syndrome. I know that each child is unique and requires personalized care. My goal is to treat every child as I would treat my own, working together with them and their care givers to provide the care that is right for each individual child. I emphasize prevention, education and when necessary, the most conservative treatment possible.
I want to make sure that every patient and their families enjoy their dental visit and leaves confident and excited to return.
