Why Pediatric Dental Care Matters
Children’s dental needs differ fundamentally from adults, requiring specialized knowledge and approaches that evolve as they grow:
- Developmental oversight: Professional monitoring during critical growth periods ensures proper jaw development and alignment, potentially reducing the need for complex orthodontic intervention later.
- Cavity prevention strategies: Children face unique cavity risks related to diet, hygiene challenges, and developmental factors that benefit from specialized preventive protocols.
- Behavior-based care: Understanding childhood psychology allows us to transform potentially intimidating procedures into manageable experiences, preventing the development of dental anxiety.
- Educational foundation: Age-appropriate instruction helps children internalize healthy habits that protect their smiles throughout life.
When Should Your Child First Visit the Dentist?
Following recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, we encourage scheduling your child’s first dental appointment by their first birthday or within six months after their first tooth appears. These early visits accomplish much more than simple examinations—they establish our office as a familiar, non-threatening environment before any treatment needs arise. Our gentle approach introduces children to dental experiences gradually, focusing on positive interactions rather than invasive procedures. Parents receive customized guidance addressing their specific questions about teething, thumb habits, dietary influences on dental health, and proper cleaning techniques tailored to their child’s developmental stage.
Pediatric Dental Services for Shiner Families
Our practice provides comprehensive care specifically designed for growing smiles, with services tailored to address the unique needs of children at every developmental stage:
Special Needs
We proudly serve children and adults with special needs who benefit from a patient, sensory-friendly approach. Dr. Kit received advanced training in treating medically complex patients and brings personal understanding as the father of a son with Down syndrome.
Preventive Care
Preventive dental care is the foundation of healthy smiles. We offer thorough dental exams and cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and digital X-rays with minimal radiation exposure. Our team also provides personalized guidance on brushing, flossing, and nutrition to help your child maintain a healthy smile at home.
Restorative Treatments
When treatment is needed, we take the most conservative approach possible. Our restorative services include tooth-colored fillings, pediatric crowns (including white crowns for a natural appearance), and space maintainers to support proper development after early tooth loss.
Sedation
For children who experience dental anxiety or need extensive treatment, we offer sedation options to help them stay calm and comfortable. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation allow children to remain relaxed while staying awake. For more complex cases, Dr. Kit coordinates general anesthesia appointments approximately once a month with trusted anesthesia providers.
First Infant Visits
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children see a dentist by their first birthday. Our first infant visits introduce babies to the dental environment in a gentle, positive way while giving parents guidance on teething, thumb habits, and early oral care.
Emergency Care
Dental emergencies do not follow a schedule. Our team provides prompt emergency care for toothaches, chipped teeth, dental trauma, and infections. We offer same-day appointments when possible and maintain an after-hours emergency line for urgent situations.

Dr. Kristopher “Kit” Bennion
Board Certified Pediatric Dentist
I’m excited to open Guadalupe Kids Dental and to be part of the community of Seguin and the surrounding area. My family and I have been in Texas since 2008, when I completed my Pediatric Dental Residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania. As part of my pediatric dental training I received extensive training in sedation dentistry and the treatment and management of medically complex pediatric patients.
My wife and I have been blessed with seven wonderful children, including my son who was born with Down Syndrome. I know that each child is unique and requires personalized care. My goal is to treat every child as I would treat my own, working together with them and their care givers to provide the care that is right for each individual child. I emphasize prevention, education and when necessary, the most conservative treatment possible.
I want to make sure that every patient and their families enjoy their dental visit and leaves confident and excited to return.
Why Guadalupe Kids Dental Stands Out
What truly sets our practice apart is our unwavering commitment to relationship-based pediatric dental care. While clinical excellence forms our foundation, we recognize that creating positive dental experiences for children involves much more than technical skill. Our approach emphasizes building genuine connections with each child, respecting their individual boundaries, acknowledging their emotions, and adapting our methods to match their developmental capabilities.
We believe that when children feel truly seen and respected during dental visits, cooperation develops naturally without resorting to outdated authoritarian approaches. Our pediatric specialists employ evidence-based behavioral guidance techniques that transform potentially challenging experiences into positive memories, helping children develop confidence that extends beyond our office walls into lifelong healthy dental habits.
