When Should You See an Emergency Dentist for Your Toddler?

As a parent, your toddler’s health and happiness are always top priorities. That it is completely natural to feel concerned when a dental emergency happens. From unexpected toothaches to bumps and falls, little ones can experience a variety of dental issues that may need immediate attention.

So, how do you know when it is time to see an emergency dentist? Understanding the signs of a true dental emergency can help you act quickly and ensure your toddler gets the care they need to stay comfortable and smiling. Some of these common symptoms that can indicate it is time to call our emergency dental team include the following:

Your Toddler Is Complaining of Serious Pain in the Mouth

When a child as young as toddler age is complaining of severe tooth pain that persists even after trying different home remedies, it may be time to give our emergency dentist a call and book an appointment.

Persistent Bleeding

If you notice that your toddler has bleeding coming from their mouth that is not able to be stopped by applying pressure or rinsing their mouth with water, you should contact our emergency dental team.

You Notice Their Face or Mouth Is Swelling

If you notice your toddler has swelling in the face or mouth, this could be an indicator that emergency dental care is needed.

Damage to the Tooth

Toddlers tend to be accident-prone, so it is no surprise that a tumble while playing outside or a blow to the face or mouth may lead to damage to their teeth. If your child has a chipped, cracked, loose, or knocked-out tooth, an emergency dentist can help!

Damage to Other Parts of the Mouth and Face

If your toddler suffers an injury to the lips, gums, tongue, or cheeks, you should consider contacting our emergency dental team to see what treatment options may be necessary.

You Notice Abnormalities on the Gums

If you find that your toddler has bumps or bulges on the gums, it is important that you contact our emergency dental care team.

Dr. Kristopher “Kit” Bennion

Board Certified Pediatric Dentist

I’m excited to open Guadalupe Kids Dental and to be part of the community of Seguin and the surrounding area.  My family and I have been in Texas since 2008, when I completed my Pediatric Dental Residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania.  As part of my pediatric dental training I received extensive training in sedation dentistry and the treatment and management of medically complex pediatric patients.

My wife and I have been blessed with seven wonderful children, including my son who was born with Down Syndrome.  I know that each child is unique and requires personalized care.  My goal is to treat every child as I would treat my own, working together with them and their care givers to provide the care that is right for each individual child.  I emphasize prevention, education and when necessary, the most conservative treatment possible.

I want to make sure that every patient and their families enjoy their dental visit and leaves confident and excited to return.
