What to Expect During Your Child’s Tooth Filling

Our compassionate team understands taking your child to the dentist for a filling can be daunting, so we do everything we can to create a comfortable, welcoming environment that puts you and your child at ease. Before the treatment, we explain every step of the process, which is similar to the one for adults. Typically, tooth fillings for children involve the following steps:

• Local Anesthesia: Your dentist will numb your child’s tooth and the surrounding area using a local anesthetic to ensure a painless procedure.
• Infection Removal: Once your child is comfortable, we remove the infected tissue from the tooth.
• Cleaning: Next, we clean and disinfect the tooth to prevent future infection and further damage.
• Filling: The tooth-colored composite resin fills the cavity to strengthen the tooth and restore its appearance.
• Curing: The filling material is cured with a special light to make the resin harden.
• Reshape and Rinse: We reshape the filling to make it look more natural and comfortable for your child. Then, your child rinses their mouth to remove debris and keep the tooth clean.

A filling can be completed in one visit, allowing your child to leave our office with a healthy, strong smile. They may experience some mild sensitivity or soreness, but these symptoms typically go away a few days after the treatment.
